The EMG 85 is an active humbucker utilizing bar shaped alnico V magnet. The EMG 85 is usually used in the neck position with the EMG 81 in the bridge position. EMG's solderless installation makes swapping your guitar pickups very easy. As the EMG 85 is an active humbucker, its two coils are not just connected in series or parallel with single output. Instead, they have two separate outputs and are summed electronically in the preamp. The EMG 85 power source can be modified from 9V to 18V by adding a second 9V battery wired in series.
