In 2007 the Ibanez LA Custom Shop made a guitar for Paul Gilbert. Paul Gilbert played around with some pictures of an Ibanez Iceman, one of his favorite pointy guitars, in photoshop and flipped it around, reversed the headstock and added a cutaway. He also asked DiMarzio to make him some new single coil pickups and three of those hum cancelling pickupswere placed in the guitar at an angle. The guitar was originally called Reversed Iceman but a fan came up with the name "Fireman".
In 2009, 45 of these guitars were issued during the 20th anniversary year of the PGM series as the Ibanez PGM FRM1 Fireman. The body of the Fireman is made of Korina wood, the bridge is an Ibanez Gibraltar II bridge with a Quick Change II Tailpiece and the scale length of this guitar is 24.75 inch.
